Artist Nate Hallinan imagines what a Smurf would look like in real life—and it’s a far cry from the cute, cartoon versions featured in the recent movie. More like a cross between the Smurfs, the Na’vi and Master Shredder.

Everyone loves to see a beloved character of old make a triumphant return to the public eye. Maybe this character was only ever viewed on a huge TV that sat on the floor and did double duty displaying family photos and the odd knick-knack. With all of the retro cartoons coming back, this decade is shaping up to be like the 1980s, except in 3D CGI. That being said, here’s our first peek at the upcoming Smurfs movie which will be released sometime next year. The plot revolves around Gargamel finding the Smurfs’ village and forcing them to flee into the woods.
