Guy Himber describes his amazing Lego orrery:

I always wanted to build something like this ever since I saw a giant fantasy orrery in the movie Dark Crystal. As it has been on my builder’s ‘wish list’ for a while I figured the Iron Builder Competition was a perfect time to try one out!

I made it with the Sun off-centered ( vs. center ) to make it more dynamic to view. The cycles and planets and moons are all fantasy based ( so go cry to your Mom if you don’t like how Mars has a Moon or Venus looks like Jupiter )

Check out the orrery in action after the break.

Just another day in the city I guess.

Apparently, this image was taken by Jack Crossing/Graphics Designed for an American Band that ended up passing on it. Maybe it was too Abbey Road/Spike Jonze/NASA cliché for them.

After the break is compelling video evidence that cats don’t belong in space. This is a sad fact we have known for decades apparently.

I CAN HAS GRAVITY? No, you cannot has—especially when your spastic, weightless movements amuse me so.

Okay, so it’s not a TIE fighter—it’s the International Space Station. But that makes this photo shot by astrophotographer Thierry Legault during a recent partial solar eclipse pretty damn cool anyway.

What does the moon smell like? Well, the general consensus among the very few that have made the journey is that it has a strong gunpowder aroma. With the help of Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke and flavorist Steven Pearce, artist Sue Corke nailed down the smell and had it converted into ink that was used to create a very limited edition of scratch and sniff moon prints.

Only 300 prints are being made available at prices that range from $55 to $428 (sold through Edinburgh Printmakers), so it might be more cost effective to just light a match.

William Shatner and Christopher Lloyd take a trip together into space aboard the Enterprise!

Well, their action figures did. And the Enterprise only a couple of inches long and tied to a weather balloon—but still.

Kinda makes the $20 million price tag to fly up as a tourist seem worth it. Watch the video on CubicleBot

As you can see on his personal website, Australian artist Peter Hennessey has a thing for NASA. Specifically, he likes to re-create NASA hardware to scale using laser-cut plywood and steel.  His latest creation, “My Hubble”,  is a full-scale model of the telescope, and it was designed without the aid of 3D modeling software. All it took was 7 images, Adobe Illustrator and about 3 months to cut and assemble the pieces.

Now that the days of the Space Shuttle are pretty much over, all those old Space shuttles have to find a new job. In better times there may have been some excellent opportunities out there, but the best it can scrape up today is a job as a piece bedroom furniture. For all the years it spent transporting millions of dollars of equipment in its payload bay it is now relegated to carrying your graphic novels, skin mags and comic books. A humbling change for the once proud Shuttle.
