A couple of weeks ago we learned that an epic Hogwarts lights show was coming to Universal Studios Hollywood on June 23rd. Well, it seems that Universal treated lucky guests to unannounced rehearsals over the weekend, and there’s a video of the show that you can check out below. Naturally, it looks amazing. This week marked the opening of Jurassic World. Best friends Jake and Dave decided to celebrate by riding the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios Hollywood for 12 hours straight. The pair told BuzzFeed:

“We both have had such an infatuation with the Universal Studios theme park and the film franchise itself that we thought, ‘What could we do in honor of the new film?!’ We wanted to do something unique in celebration, but also something that hasn’t been done before.

They spoke to the people at Guinness World Records and the ride operators before setting out to break the record at 9:15 in the morning. They were granted the ability to skip line and get right back on without having to wait so that they could ride 50 times to break the record. The finally tally was 60 rides in 12 hours.

Crank up the outrage machine to whatever level you feel appropriate on this one. According to Variety, Universal Studios is developing a Battlestar Galactica movie that will be “a complete reimagining of the story” and will be penned by Transcendence screenwriter Jack Paglen.

There’s no director currently. We do know that Bryan Singer was rumored to be attached to a Battlestar Galactica movie back in 2009, but he’s doing X-Men so that likely leaves him out of the mix.

One thing I’ve heard is that Ron Moore’s not attached, so I’m not feeling super hopeful, but I’m one of those fans.

We’ll keep you posted.

cabin in the woods

Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights are infamous. I’m too much of a wimp to check out the event, but fans of horror and being scared seem to love attending every fall. This year they’re going for an extra special twist by working with director Drew Goddard to create a maze based on his film The Cabin in the Woods. It’s a smart marketing move. Universal recently spoke to Zap2it about the plan:

“We are building the cabin completely. You’re going to walk through a forest to get there. You’re going into the cabin. You’re going to go into the cube cells. We’re literally taking everything we can in the film and giving you a kind of best-of montage of the film with this kind of linking story,” Universal Orlando Entertainment Team member Michael Aiello tells Zap2it. “You’re going to be in the control room when merman attacks.”

Guests entering the maze will be inserted into the story. Plot points will be incorporated, and it will definitely be like a movie walk through of sorts. They’ll change some parts – the final scene definitely won’t be the same. Goddard and team are still developing the script, but you can bet whatever they create for fans will be incredibly memorable.

If I knew a word of Japanese I would have moved there years ago because they get the coolest stuff. Universal Studios Japan will be hosting “Halloween Horror Nights” now through November 11th with the park being re-themed to Resident Evil once darkness falls. Thanks to some awesome projection mapping, this includes turning one building into the Umbrella Corporation, the creation of Raccoon City and an assortment of zombies and beasties roaming the streets of the park. There will even be actors portraying Jill Valentine and Claire Redfield!
