There was a time when 3D was new and exciting with people wearing cute little cardboard glasses. They ate their popcorn and waited for things to pop out of the screen and scare them so badly they’d spill it into their laps. Fast forward a few years, okay more than a few, all the way to Avatar. Now 3D isn’t a gimmick, they say, it’s an experience. They even give it a cooler name, RealD, which seems to be merely an excuse to make me wear horribly uncomfortable glasses and charge me a few extra bucks. I find it distracting and cringe when I see movies released only this way. I still see them, rubbing behind my ears and adjusting those stupid glass for half the movie, but I’d much rather just see things in good old 2D. This weekend my dislike of 3D reached new heights when it became partly to blame for me not getting to see the movie I wanted to see. It officially became my nemesis.

Inspired by the ’60s setting for the upcoming film X-Men: First Class and designs from Saul Bass and various Bond films, the folowing fan-made title sequence really sets the tone for the time period in which the film takes place. There’s even a “melancholic” rendition of the theme song to the 90′s X-Men cartoon tying the whole video together.

This sequence was designed to give a very brief primer on the time period, the setting, as well as show the relationships of the characters in this film, as they are very different from the previous movies and audiences shouldn’t be confused as to why Professor X and Magneto, enemies in the original trilogy, are the best of friend in this prequel.

Check out the video after the break.

We got a look at several upcoming films during the Super Bowl this year, but X-Men: First Class was notably absent.

That problem has been remedied however, and I’m pleased to say that the prequel is looking pretty good. Check out the trailer after the break.
