Everytime I turned around today, there was a new story on Google. Some were rumors, others offical denials or clarfications from Google. Then their earnings came out. Let’s just list the rumors and clarifications:
Rumor: Google will partner with/purchase Napster. Google officially denied this report. An analyst even went so far as to say a Google music store may open a beta online store in the next 3- 6 months. From PCWorld.com
Rumor: Google will develop a desktop Linux package based on Ubuntu. Not true, per ars technica “Technology spokeswoman Sonya Borälv responded very quickly to my query on the topic. She said that “[w]e use Ubuntu internally but have no plans to distribute it outside of the company.”
Their earnings announced after the market closed came in $0.22 lower per share than expectations, and their stock plunged as much as 19% in after hours trading. Last I looked it was at $381.55, for a loss of $51.11 or about 12%.
Are the rumors true? How about the denials? Really hard to say, every one has their own motivations.
