A “Battlestar Galactica” Cylon Baseship Made From LEGO Bricks

It took Garry King 16,387 Lego bricks to build this 36-pound Battlestar Galactica Cylon Baseship. He modeled it after designs by artist Ralph McQuarrie who worked on the original series. It has three landing bays and can even stand on its own atop a small base.

There is very little reference material available for this ship just the basic shape. The detail is applied for a dramatic effect. If you have a look at the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica series. The first movie Saga of star worlds when Apollo and Zac go on patrol and see a Cylon tanker the scan through their onboard war book display and this beauty is unveiled for the first time.

King even paid attention to color, choosing colors that complemented the overall model and worked with the themes of the show.

I used dark blue as a contrasting break from the boring, dark green is used for the landing bay decks and dark red I felt it needed to link it to Battlestar Galactica, the Cylon red eye for an added effect. Allowing the imagination to run free, The red line runs around the circumference of the circular disc. This is used as a scanner to seek out the inferior human pests.

Now he just needs to build a few matching Raiders and a Viper to complete the set.
