Blu Ray to Output Hi Def Analog

We have been hearing all along about the “analog hole” that is created by allowing unprotected content Hi Def content to be ouput in an analog format since there is no protection available. Today we hear from Sony that Blu Ray will not be degrading the analog signal, allowing those with analog HDTV’s to be able to actually use them for high definition content.
In an important aside, Don Eklund, SPHE’s senior vice president for advanced technologies, said that Sony’s initial Blu-ray discs — and all of its Blu-ray titles for the forseeable future — will be free of the “Image Constraint Token” that’s built into the Blu-ray and HD DVD standards.
Other than using a nebulous term like “foreseeable future”, that sounds great. They are more worried, rightly or wrongly can be debated, about the content protection on the digital signal. At least the small percentage of people who have analog hi def sets won’t be left in the cold on this.
