wood figure 1

Toys don’t have to be made from LEGO bricks in order to be attractively blocky. Artist Amanda Visell does a fine job making angles with her wood idols. We’ve featured her Star Wars figurines in the past, and now she’s added superheroes and Disney villains to her portfolio. The unique figures aren’t quite like anything I’ve seen, and I love the take on the characters and the fact that Visell also makes the boxes. Her newest designs feature Wolverine, Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain Hook, and more.

Amanda Visell doesn’t create your every day collectibles; she creates wood action figures that are pieces of art. She’s made a ton of Star Wars dolls in the past, and she’s added to the list with new ones of Slave Leia, Boushh, Jabba, Bib Fortuna, and a Tauntaun. Visell gets the details of the costumes just right, and she even included Salacious Crumb on the Jabba figure. The fact that she adds quotes to the figures makes them that much more perfect.

For example, Slave Leia’s back says “I got a bad feeling about this.” Yep, awesome.

Seeing the time, effort, and creativity fans put into making custom toys brings a smile to my face, and these hand carved and painted figures by Amanda Visell make me grin from ear to ear. She’s created blocky, large versions of Star Wars characters like Vader, Leia, IG-88, and Boba Fett. She’s not only made fantastic figures, she’s made equally cool packaging. I’m drooling.
