Jeff Highsmith gets the cool dad award of the month for building an awesome Mission Control desk for his oldest son. Highsmith knew his kid needed a separate surface on which to do his homework, so he used MDF (medium-density fibreboard) to construct a basic desk. Then, he designed a control console roughly based on NASA examples and used Arduino and Raspberry Pi to program all the lights and switches. It doesn’t seem like the most simple project, but you can follow along and create something similar!
The desk is absolutely awesome. I especially like that when it’s time to get back to homework, the top of the desk folds down and covers the controls. It’s official. I need to make a cooler desk.
