The search for the ultimate portable video player continues. So how does Creative’s Zen Vision stack up?
DesignTecnica: “The bottom line is that the Zen Vision is undoubtedly, a very cool product. It’s small and supports the video formats that count, including DivX and Xvid. Audio quality is definitely not as good as you would expect from Creative Labs. However, right now there is little that can compete with the Zen Vision in this price range. If you must have a product like this, you should be fairly happy with the Zen Vision in its current state. Otherwise, wait until some software updates and fixes have been released before buying.”
CNET: “The Creative Zen Vision, a dazzling but occasionally frustrating personal media player, handles video and music with aplomb, all for a tantalizingly low price.”
IGN: “The Creative Zen Vision is a very nice all-around portable media option. Music playback is awesome, some of the best you’ll find anywhere. The video playback is decent, though we’d have liked to have seen 640×480 support via the included software. You’ll need to grab third-party software to hit 640×480 compression. The TV-output is great and a major plus for anyone who wants to make use of it. Add in FM radio support, microphone recording and whatever else and the thing is definitely feature-packed.”
With a price point that is under $400, you really can’t go wrong with the Creative Zen Vision. It has a few quirks – but all in all the positives far outweigh the negatives.
