“Star Trek” USS Enterprise Soapbox Racer Warps Past The Competition

trek

Star Trek fan Rob Wixey built this fantastic USS Enterprise soapbox racer to attend the premiere of Star Trek: Into Darkness, and now he’ll be piloting it in the Red Bull Soapbox race at London’s Alexandra Palace on July 14th.

It took him two months to build in his backyard, along with the help of three of his friends. The frame of the ship is a bike that’s been cut in half then covered with plywood and polystyrene. On top of that is a coat of fiberglass that Rob sanded and then painted for the finished product. Rob says,

Only yesterday I entered into a sci-fi short film contest judged by Benedict Cumberbatch and now I will be watching the Star Trek premiere with him – the whole experience is overwhelming. Now I can’t wait for the Red Bull Soapbox event, maybe some of the Star Trek cast will come down and cheer me on!

People’s reactions to the Starship today have been brilliant – they loved it. I have such an admiration for JJ Abrams and it’s great to be part of the premiere – though I do feel slightly overdressed.

Slightly overdressed? He went as Spock, complete with Vulcan ears. I’d say he was dressed perfectly.

See more pictures after the break…
