The Hans Solderer: A Star Wars Blaster For Your Circuit Boards

After breaking the case off his Dad’s Bakelite soldering gun in 1983, Craig Smith decided to fix the device by fitting its components into a gutted Star Wars Han Solo pistol, which included running the lightbulb up into the scope on top and rigging a button on the handle as the trigger switch.

To this day, when an underpowered iron just won’t do, I pull out the “Han Solderer” and get the job done. Half of me likes the mod, the other half is ill over the fact that I gutted my vintage Star Wars toy. What’s done is done.

Somewhere out there, George Lucas and Radio Shack executives are rubbing their chins in dollar sign induced fascination.
