Apple Computer and Apple Corps

Finally, the Beatles have decided to join us in the 21st century and offer their music catalog for download via the internet.

That is to say that the Beatles have finally decided to get paid for music downloads. Not suprisingly, Beatles music is consistantly among the top files downloaded from file sharing sites.

Fans might also be interested in knowing that the entire Beatles catalogue is currently in the process of being digitally remastered. Sources say that the appearance of Beatles music online will coincide with the release of these remasters.

The major question is whether or not the music will be available on iTunes. A lawsuit filed by Apple Corps (Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, and the estate of George Harrison) against Apple Computer accuses the tech giant of violating a 1991 trademark agreement which stipulated that Apple Computer could not use it’s name and logo to promote it’s iTunes Music store.

A decision on that lawsuit is due later this month.
