In a direct attack on the essential monopoly that Creative Labs has had on sound cards, Asus introduced two cards at CeBIT -the Xonar D2 for PCI slots and the Xonar D2X for PCIe slots.
The D2X is certified for Dolby Digital, Dolby Live, DTS Connected and DTS 5.1 audio. Probably one of the best features is an analog loopback mode for digitizing sound with no external equipment required. It also must have some power behind it, because it requies an onboard fan. Other than another obnoxious fan, it sounds like this could be something to look into. Coming from a company already respected in motherboards and making some inroads with video cards, Creative cannot take them lightly.
