OPM CoverDana Jongewaard, editor of Official PlayStation Magazine, has revealed in a recent 1UP article that she will be passing on a Playstation 3 this November. Instead, she plans on “joining the dark side” to pick up an XBox 360 – and possibly a Wii.

Jongewaard writes: “It’s not that I find the concept of a $600 console insulting. Inflation happens, and it’s natural that eventually inital prices will be higher than they used to be. But when I know that a console’s direct competitors cost two-thirds or half of that price, it becomes harder for me to justify shelling out that kind of money–especially when I can probably get the Wii and the 360 combined for the cost of a PS3.”

Kudos to Jongewaard for having the courage to bite the hand that feeds her. In the end, she is absolutely right – purchasing a PS3 at $600 is nearly impossible to justify at this point.

Like her, I don’t give a damn about Blu-ray and many of the other extras Sony threw in the PS3. I just want to play some freakin’ games at a price I can afford. If Sony was serious about using the console as a means to win the HD DVD / Blu-ray format war, they should have sucked it up and dropped the price to $400.
