Let’s face it, Tiger Woods golf games haven’t seen much in the way of innovation in the last few years – but the magic of the Wii is in its ability to take tired old concepts and repackage them in an entertaining way. Does Tiger Woods 07 for the Wii deliver?
Reviews:
Our opinion: (7.5 out of 10) The graphics aren’t fantastic and there isn’t much in the way of new gameplay modes in Tiger Woods 07 for the Wii – but you already knew that. The functionality of the Wiimote as it relates to the game is what everyone is interested in here, and I can tell you that the controls are passable at best. In typical EA style it seems that they rushed the game out the door without really taking full advantage of the Wiimote functionality. Swinging in the right direction is difficult at times and matching the pace of the on-screen character can get a little frustrating. However, with a little practice (and a switch to “Hard” mode strangely enough) I was able to hit the ball left, right, and straight fairly consistently. Despite its drawbacks, the game is definitely a lot of fun and it is certainly a step in the right direction. Hopefully future editions will add more accurate swing control to heighten the sense of realism.
Gamespot: (7.5 out of 10) “If you own Tiger Woods 07 on another console, there’s little reason to pick it up again on the Wii because there isn’t any new content. However, it’s certainly the best golf game available for the Wii at this time, and there’s plenty here to keep you busy. Tiger Woods 07 does a fine job replicating the feel of actually swinging a golf club, and just as impressive is the fact that the control scheme is accessible to both golfers and nongolfers alike.”
IGN: (7 out of 10) “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 for Wii is good, but not great. I like to think of it as an important first step. EA has with the title created a fun, but sometimes-flawed golf game – one overflowing with gameplay modes and options, but missing some control nuances. If you liked Wii Sports golf, but always wished you could do more with it, Tiger is your game. The control configuration works well enough to be enjoyable and entertaining most of the time, but there are also some frustrations, particularly when your seemingly straight swings send your golf balls curving into trees, anyway.”
