There isn’t a ton of detail out on this yet, but Comcast has announced that they will be offering their customers the option of using TiVo’s software on their set top boxes. The change will not require a visit from a technician, so it is obviously a downloadable upgrade. It sounds like most of the TiVo features will be available, but KidZone and, more importantly, TivoToGo will be missing.
I have to say that I am not real impressed with the initial reports I am hearing. I wouldn’t want to have a DVR solution with a few TiVo features, I want a full TiVo feature set and functionality. I would rather see them start with a Tivo and add the cable box features required, not the other way around. We’ll see whether Comcast’s solution will give their customers and TiVo aficionados what they want.
