We all know that cooler electronics result in faster performance. We already cool processors and GPU’s, why not have a dedicated cooling fan for memory as well? That must have been Corsair’s thinking when they developed their XMS2 Dominator memory chips with optional cooling fan.
Not only do they have an optional fan, they also have a heatsink on top to promote cooling. The Corsair is offered in two flavors, the TWIN2X2048-8888C4DF in the $600 range and the TWIN2X2048-8500C5D in the $400 range. The optional fan will set you back another $25. Of course, heat is not the only problem with speed, better modules run faster than lesser modules. But if you think the additional cooling will allow you to overclock to where you want to be, give them a shot. That is if you have the cash, because these things are not cheap.
