Steve Ballmer’s talk today gave some indication that the Vista launch may be pushed back a few months more. While there was not a defeinitive statement, it seemed like his remarks about timing the release with different manufacturers’ product releases, it makes it seem like they are just looking for an excuse to buy themselves a few extra months.
Microsoft says they need more time to evaluate the feedback from their Beta testing program. Unofrtunately for Microsoft, early reviews I have seen are less than flattering. Forget ho wwell the product looks to consumers, if it does not work as advertised then there will be repercussions. With the open source movement gaining more ground every day, they can’t afford to screw up a new OS. I don’t know that people are just biding their time. They are looking forward to a new OS that has new features, but they know they are getting an incremental improvement and not a revolutionary product. Microsoft needs to remember it is all about innovation, not just recurring revenue.
