The third annual Read Comics in Public event is today! I know that for some of you this isn’t different from any other day. I read comics wherever I am, and because of it I once got to educate my endodontist about the fact that girls do read comics. Really. That said, I know some folks who are shy about pulling out their comics in public locations. They worry about being made fun of or getting weird looks.
If that’s ever been you, today is the day to get over it. Take whatever comic or graphic novel or trade you’re reading and read it at the coffee shop, at the bus stop, or while sitting on a park bench. You know all those moments waiting in line you spend playing Angry Birds on your smart phone? Read a comic instead. You can even do it digitally. Who knows? You might find another comic book fan, someone could see you and ask questions and you’d get him or her hooked on comics, or maybe you’ll just read quietly and enjoy the story. It’s a win any way you look at it.
