Meet artist Conor Nolan’s Lilypad 7, the amphibian fighting crew from an alternate reality in the time of feudal Japan.

Nolan recently told io9 that, while there is no doubt that he was inspired by Hayao Miyazaki films and Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, he “also just really likes frogs and thought putting them into armor, robes, and acorn hats would be a fun thing to draw.”.

Take a closer look at his work after the break.

Nolan is working on a comic book and plans to pitch it down the road but, in the meantime, you can buy prints of his artwork, including the set of all seven samurai frogs for £60 (or roughly $91).
