Monty Python members Terry Jones, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, and Michael Palin are officially reuniting for a stage show. It’s been a rumor for quite awhile, but the news was confirmed by Jones when he told the BBC:
“We’re getting together and putting on a show – it’s real. I’m quite excited about it. I hope it makes us a lot of money. I hope to be able to pay off my mortgage!”
This will be the first time the five surviving members have done a stage show since back in the 1980s. The sixth member, Graham Chapman, died from cancer in 1989. The only other time the group has been together was for a bit at the 1998 Aspen Comedy Festival where Gilliam knocked over an urn full of Chapman’s ashes.
No details on the stage show have been released, but a press conference planned for Thursday should spell it out, and possibly include news of a television and/or film deal.
