When Disney bought Lucasfilm one of the many things that fans wondered about was what would happen to the relationship with Dark Horse Comics. Given Disney’s ownership of Marvel and the fact that Marvel used to publish Star Wars comics, many assumed it was only a matter of time before the comics switched hands. Now it seems like that day might be coming sooner rather than later.
Blue Sky Disney, a reliable Disney fan blog stated the following earlier this week:
The Suits in the know have determined that no new contracts will be given to Dark Horse after the current ones expire. So all new projects after 2013 will be handled internally by Marvel.
They don’t mention who the “Suits” are or name any verifiable sources. They speculate that Dark Horse would run through its stories in the pipeline and that nothing new would come from Marvel until 2015.
While the truth of this rumor wouldn’t surprise me, for now it’s just that. There have not been any official announcements on the matter, and I won’t get my knickers in a twist about what will happen to current Dark Horse Star Wars titles until it’s official.
