Women in comics end up in ridiculous poses meant to accentuate their chest and butt way too often. Sometimes the poses defy the fact that characters have you know, bones. Remember the first version of this Catwoman cover? It’s commonplace enough that a movement has sprung up to send a message: The Hawkeye Initiative. The premise is simple and smart:
“How to fix every Strong Female Character pose in superhero comics: replace the character with Hawkeye doing the same thing.”
Spider-Woman is striking a pose that makes no sense? Put Hawkeye in her place. Psylocke is twisting in a way that seems silly? It’s even sillier when you put Hawkeye in the same stance instead.
Think it’s just a passing fad? It might be, but the Tumblr was just created last weekend and already has over 10,000 followers. It’s based on user submissions, and the queue is keeping full. I think it’s struck a cord.
Check out a few more hilarious examples after the break.
