Look out, Motor City! Batman and Superman are coming to town and given the amount of destruction in the last Superman movie, you’re screwed. I kid. Even though Detroit is the location for the set, it probably won’t be featured as a setting in the film. The Michigan Film Office recently announced that they nabbed Batman vs. Superman for the city of Detroit. The movie has been approved to receive $35 million in incentives, and according to the press release, the production will probably hire around 400 Michigan workers and use around 500 local vendors. Every little bit helps.
Director Zack Snyder had the following to say about the location:
“Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie,” stated filmmaker Zack Snyder. “Detroit and the entire state of Michigan have been fantastic collaborators, and we are looking forward to working together on this film.”
From what I’ve heard about the city, it seems gritty enough to make a fine substitute for Gotham. Unfortunately, it could also work for Metropolis if it hasn’t been fully restored from Superman’s recent battles in Man of Steel.
