Michael Bay Changes His Mind, Says The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Won’t Be Aliens

Oh, Michael Bay. You are an entertaining man and, in this case, the word “entertaining: isn’t a compliment. The director has made an about face on his statement that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in his film would be aliens. In fact, he’s denying he ever said they would be. We call shenanigans.

He told Moviefone it was all a misquote:

There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie.

What? Did Bay forget about the part where he took the stage at Nickelodeon Upfront last year and said the following:

“When you see this movie, kids will believe one day that these turtles do exist, when we’re done with this movie. These turtles are from an alien race, and they’re going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable.”

If he wanted to get it right, why not reassure fans then? Instead he told fans to chill. I’m not sure what’s changed, but it seems like he’s lying now to make someone happy. This all makes me like him even less.
