Hasbro is bringing an View-Master/Virtual-Boy experience to the iPhone and iPod touch starting this Spring with an add-on dubbed “My3D.”

The $30 kit will be used with some specially designed apps that allow for 3D tracking—and that’s the kind of thing that can move this idea beyond a mere gimmick. Basically, it allows you to view a 360 degree virtual world in 3D through your iPhone binoculars.

So far there is a lot of talk about apps for movie trailers and educational apps where viewers are given virtual tours of museums, landmarks and undersea worlds. Naturally, there is also talk of the vast gaming potential of something like this. Thanks to improvements in technology, “my3D” could succeed where the Virtual Boy failed. It all really depends on whether or not they can deliver a library of quality apps.

We’ve known for some time that George Lucas had his sights set on a 3D re-release of Star Wars, but it looks as though it might actually happen starting with Episode 1 in 2012, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Apparently, Lucas was holding out for the number of 3D screens in the US to grow to acceptable levels—and the release of Avatar went a long way in helping to make that possible.

However, the goal is to release one movie a year, meaning we won’t get to the good stuff until 2015. Lucas plans to oversee the conversion process, but we all know that making 3D movies from the ground up results in the best product. So, there is no telling whether or not it will even be worth the wait.

A Canadian safety group is taking the idea of phony speed bumps (which have been around for a while) to a twisted new level by making it seem as though you are about to mow down a kid chasing a ball.

Indeed, the 3D decal is a bit of guerrilla marketing designed to make us think twice about road safety as we cut the wheel hard and roll down a cliff to our horrific deaths. Check out a video of the decal in action after the break.

Either you like the Jackass stuff or you don’t but, as they say, “nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public”. Perhaps that explains why this is their 3rd movie.

Either way, this is a mindlessly funny way to start your weekend. High-five!

No, Lucas hasn’t officially announced a 3D version of Star Wars (although the release of Avatar might be the driving force that finally makes it happen), but there is a 3D chess board scheduled to come out next month. The image is grainy and there isn’t much info, but the board appears to include pieces with “beloved Star Wars characters” that use “the latest in motion printed technology.”
