Bacon Day is celebrated in in many places around the globe, (the international observance is on the first Monday in September) but Fayetteville, Arkansas’ version has become something of an internet sensation. That’s because past celebrations have given birth to some awesome bacon-themed creations like the BA-K-47 and the bacon AT-AT.

However, this year topped them all with a sausage-firing bacon bazooka. See it in action on That’s Nerdalicious

From That’s Nerdalicious!: Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is. Oh wait, that’s not heartburn—it’s a heart attack. My mistake.

Let’s face it, water is boring and breakfast shakes have a disturbing lack of bacon flavor. So why not start out your day by dropping a couple of these effervescent bacon tablets into your water, milk, soda or juice? It will infuse the beverage with a bacon-y (or cupcake-y) goodness.

Actually, you can use it with any beverage. So think about dropping one in your beer , coffee or, better yet, your friend’s wine when they aren’t looking.

From That’s Nerdalicious!: Mollie of Wild Olive has come up with this adorable bacon bookmark that you can download (PDF) and print onto some cardstock. She suggests using magnetic tape on either end to make the bookmark even more effective.

Pickle, pencil, bandage and ruler bookmarks are also included on the sheet.

The answer to these questions, along with the basic recipe for the beer, is available on our new nerdy food site That’s Nerdalicious

So, the ultimate nerd’s beer has been brewed, baconed and bottled. Now we wait.

However, I do have some details on the taste of the unconditioned beer. Before bottling and just prior to the coffee addition, I gave the beer a taste test to determine how well the bacon flavor came along after the “hopping” period.

Indeed—Nerd Approved’s oatmeal, coffee, stout has just received its bacon addition. Now comes the daily taste-testing to determine the appropriate amount of bacony beer flavor.

Of course, I will probably need quite a bit more bacon than I put in the hop bag to get the flavor that I want. Though I cooked the bacon down as much as possible without burning, I’m still a bit paranoid about fat leeching into the beer. So I’m starting with a relatively small amount of bacon just to get a baseline, then I’ll likely ramp it up over the next couple of days depending on how it goes.
