The Doctor has been featured in a few bizarre paintings (like this one), and now’s he a Rembrandt. Some Doctor Who fans at Geekcetera found an oil painter to mimic Rembrandt’s well known-style and had the painter add in a few familiar faces. The actual painting, which is a replica of “The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp,” is over 3 feet tall by 2 feet wide. It features the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, River Song, Amy Pond, and more. Fantastic.

To commemorate the occasion, they’ve made one hundred 12″ by 15″ prints. It will look wonderful on the wall of your TARDIS.

Adding to his portfolio of action figure paintings, artist Robert Burden created this awesome work featuring the the Thundercats. The painting, entitled “Soliders of Thundera,” measures 6 feet by 11 feet unframed, and required 1,000 hours of work spread over 7 months. The best part is that Robert created a time-lapse video of the painting’s creation, which you can check out after the break – there’s also an easter egg at the end in the form of stop motion animation.

Swedish artist Andreas Englund created a series of paintings featuring an old superhero, explaining them as follows:

“Humor can be the carrier of messages that are otherwise hard to convey. For me, it liberates my thoughts and ideas from pretentiousness while at the same time it opens doors to new routes and angles.”

Apparently the message here is that superpowers can’t stop the aging process, or control the onset of gut fat and man boobs.

Still, older people need a superhero too. Someone to help them cross busy streets and defend them against Medicare fraud. Check out some additional images after the break.

Now you know the real reason why Van Gogh went mad.

Doctor Who fans might recognize this painting from the first episode of season 6—The Impossible Astronaut. Mathilda and the Doctor were just in it for the art of course, as the Doctor would never sully the reputation of an innocent nobelman’s daughter…*ahem*.

You know that friend of yours who detests cell phones? If you ever visit his house and discover that you have no signal, it’s probably because he bought this cell phone jammer hidden in a painting. It comes with a remote control and will completely block GSM, CDMA, DCS, PHS, and 3G mobile phone signals within an 80 meter radius without interrupting any other electronic device. That means he can continue boring you with self-serving anecdotes while you unknowingly miss an emergency phone call.

It may take your guests a little while to figure it out, but that new painting in your house that they enjoy so much also happens to be a cell phone jammer. Nothing is more annoying than a visitor to your house spending all their time on the phone, now they won’t be able to make or receive any calls while at your house while you just play dumb. The jammer will block the following frequencies that should cover all cell signals: CDMA: 870-880MHz; GSM930-960MHz; DCS: 1805-1850MHz; PHS: 1895-1918MHz; 3G: 2010-2145MHz.

The Illusionator VideoArt “Ship of the Dead” haunted artwork features an old ship painting on actual canvas that suddenly comes to life with a bolt of lightning. The ship then sinks before your eyes while howling souls fly into the air and flames engulf the sinking vessel. The action comes to you from an LCD monitor installed behind the painting that includes built in speakers. The scene plays on a continuous loop thanks to a small, self-contained media playback unit that offers a brief pause between each simulation. All this comes together to serve as a cool Halloween decoration, conversation piece, or your worst nightmare if you suffer from aquaphobia.
