portrait

Etsy seller Ruth Marcus is offering this portrait of Spock holding a cat, accompanied by the following description which is basically what you would expect from someone who is selling a portrait of Spock holding a cat:

As a dedicated scientist, Mini feels a deep connection with Spock. Their bond is celebrated here by a customized, acrylic pet-celebrity portrait.

If you want in on the action, Ruth will create a customized acrylic portrait of your pet with any celebrity “who is awesome and whose picture is readily available”.

If you read comic books, there’s been a time (or times) when you’ve pictured yourself in the story. Maybe you pretend you’re Captain America, Black Widow, Wolverine, or a new character you’ve imagined. At least, I’m guessing it isn’t just me who does this.

The Comics Factory has a team of digital artists ready to turn you into the (officially licensed) superhero you’ve always wanted to be. You can have your face blended into any of the hero costumes mentioned above, you can describe a custom character, or you can even partner up with friends for multi-hero/villain images. The finished images come in various sizes with framing options.

I think these would make a great gift for the comics fan in your life, and they’d be perfect for upcoming Mother’s and Father’s Days! Who wouldn’t want a picture of themselves as Spider-Man?

There’s no shortage of Game of Thrones fan art, but these photorealistic portraits definitely stand apart. Artist Anja Dalisa has digitally painted what seems like all the cast, and if you watch the series, you know that’s not a small number. She’s captured the likeness of most of the actors and used light and shadow expertly.

Check out a gallery of a selection of portraits after the break. And don’t mind me; I’ll just be over here drooling over Robb Stark.

If you follow @NathanFillion on Twitter (and you should), you might have seen this incredibly awesome portrait of Mal Reynolds painted by artist Dan Dos Santos for the Dark Horse’s Firefly comic that’s set for release on Free Comic Book Day. The title is actually a Star Wars / Firefly double feature flip book penned by Zack Whedon.

Holy crap I can’t wait for May 5th!

A detailed look at how Dan created the work is available on io9.

A guy named Martin recently constructed a portrait of Mario using 49 cheap Rubik’s cubes. Although the art took about a half hour to create (impressive), you can watch the process in a mere 1:14 thanks to the magic of time-lapse. Check it out after the break.
