Tiny Einstein Robot Takes On Alexa With Science

Imagine if Amazon’s Echo was shaped like a tiny theoretical physicist and could chit chat with you at length about science. Say hello to Professor Einstein: Your Personal Genius.

Yes, tiny Einstein will still tell you the weather and manage your calendar, but he does everything with an educational twist. A companion app called Stein-O-Matic adds to the fun with interactive content:

The Stein-O-Matic app is the user’s guidebook and control system for directly engaging content. Using the app, you have access to new activities added to the Stein-O-Matic every day. In addition, Professor Einstein’s robust reward system allows you to earn IQ points, which you can use to unlock special items, bonus games and avatar upgrades.

Place an iPad or Android tablet next to Professor Einstein and watch as he guides you through interactive lessons, eye-popping slideshows, daily mental kick starts, thought experiments, jokes, brain games and more.

Tiny Einstein is also capable of over 50 gestures and expressions—including sticking his tongue out just like the real Einstein. Additional features include:

I don’t know if I would trust Einstein to help me stay organized. Wasn’t he notoriously absentminded? I worry that he would jot my calendar down in a book somewhere and forget where he put it. Otherwise, this seems like a really fun educational toy. Not surprisingly, Hanson Robotics is likely to surpass its goal for this project on Kickstarter very quickly, so there’s still plenty of time to pledge. At the time of writing, a handful of early bird slots were left at $269, though the remaining slots are only slightly more expensive at $279.
