Fans of British sci-fi should get a kick out of this one – or should we say “brick”? (No. – Ed.) A LEGO fan by the name of Legobob32 (clever name, we know) has submitted a design for a set to the LEGO Ideas site themed entirely around cult classic British sci-fi comedy series Red Dwarf.
The set is modeled on the bunk room shared in the show by main characters Dave Lister and Arnold Rimmer, specifically the bunk as it appears in Red Dwarf X. It features cues from previous seasons, minifigs of the four principal characters, and two of the character’s parallel-universe alter egos – Duane Dibley and Ace Rimmer. Oh, and there’s also a build of Blue Midget, one of the ship-to-surface vessels that appears infrequently during the show.
Even if you’re not a fan, you’ve gotta admit that looks like a fun little build. If you agree, lend your support.
For those not familiar with Red Dwarf, it’s a (mostly) studio-audience sitcom following the exploits of the last human alive, stranded aboard a mining ship three-million years into deep space. He’s not alone, though – for company, he has a hologrammatic recreation of his anal-retentive bunk mate, a sanitation droid who aspires to be more human by learning our worst attributes, a senile computer with an IQ of 6,000, and an evolved descendant of the common house cat.
While not as popular as, say, Doctor Who, it’s still has a decent cult following worldwide, particularly in Japan which was the first country to get the complete original run of the show on DVD. It’s also one of the most popular shows on Dave, the UK-based television network who revived the series in 2009. Here’s that clip from the Emmy-winning sixth season episode “Gunmen of the Apocalypse”.
