There is a new Slingbox family out, and from all accounts it does what it advertises and is simple to set up. Isn’t that a refreshing change from a number of other tech releases these days?

On to what they now have. They have three products to address whatever your needs are. They have a nice chart that compares all the features, so be sure you know what you are looking for and you should have no troble deciding which one would be appropriate.

SlingBox Tuner – Connect your cable directly to the SlingBox Tuner and you can access your basic cable channels from anywhere

SlingBox AV – Allows you to control all your cable box functions – watch any channel, control your DVR, even check out the online program guide. Order a pay per view movie. You can access remotely anything you can do locally at home, and it works for cable or satellite.

SlingBox Pro – Controls up to four devices, and supports HD with an add on high definition cable. You can choose whether to stream HD in 4:3 or 16:9 format.

All of the products implement their Slingstream technology that dynamically adjusts the quality to match your available bandwidth. With prices ranging from $179-249, you can choose the level of service you need and begin using it with very little effort. Sling Media has done a nice job with this product from its first release, and they seem to be maintaining that level of quality. Until the day I see them releasing a product that is not ready for prime time, I would not hesitate to purchase their products.
